Ethical Obligations and Professional Responsibilities for Individuals Registered as Trainers with the Aspire Registry
I, [NAME], understand that by registering as a trainer with the Aspire Registry and using the Aspire PD Finder (formerly Aspire Training Calendar) and event tracking system, I have certain ethical obligations and professional responsibilities to uphold.
Ethical Obligations
I will:
- Support the work of New York Works for Children by helping others understand the role of New York Works for Children in improving the quality of professional development opportunities which will, in turn, improve the quality of early childhood and school age education in New York.
- Present content that is congruent with the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Code of Ethical Conduct for Early Childhood Adult Educators and National Afterschool Association’s Code of Ethics. These codes will guide my own behavior.
- Present accurate information that reflects best practices for adult learning situations, including maintaining the confidentiality of all participants.
- Adhere to copyright laws by not presenting material produced by other trainers or training programs without first obtaining written permission and/or acknowledging the source of the information as appropriate.
- Provide professional development activities that are within the boundaries of my competence and expertise.
- Treat all workshop participants with fairness and respect. I will not discriminate against anyone for any reason. I will present information that is respectful and inclusive of diverse cultures.
- Be sure to follow the conflict-of-interest policies of the organization to which I am employed to ensure compliance.
- Remain current in my profession by actively pursuing opportunities to continue my own professional development.
- Not sell products or services, or allow others to, during a training session unless the products or services are directly related to the training content.
- Cooperate with other professionals to the best of my ability to serve early childhood and school age education professionals, children and families of New York.
- Uphold honesty, integrity, and transparency in all my professional activities. This includes providing truthful information about my qualifications and ensuring fairness and equity in all interactions.
Professional Responsibilities
I will:
- Maintain an active status with the Aspire Registry by updating my Aspire individual and trainer profile annually.
- Maintain good standing with Aspire partner agencies/initiatives including but not limited to funding and regulatory agencies (NYS Office of Children and Family Services, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYC Public Schools, NYS Education Department), New York Association for the Education of Young Children, NYS Network for Youth Success, the Professional Development Program (PDP) at SUNY Albany, the NY Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, New York Works for Children, and QUALITYstarsNY.
- Submit and schedule events two weeks prior to the scheduled training date.
- Ensure that the information in the training event submission is complete, true, accurate and reflective.
- Maintain an active email address that is registered in my name and will not use general company email addresses for Aspire event review correspondence.
- Report on any planned changes to a Registered or Quality Assured training course prior to the scheduled event. Changes may include cancellations or changes in dates and/or trainers. I will also report on any unexpected changes that occur during my workshop/training on the next business day. Unexpected changes include, but are not limited to, the illness of the trainer causing an early release, other unforeseen emergencies that prevent the workshop/training from being carried out in its entirety, etc. In such instances, I will notify all registered participants.
- Advertise a course or workshop as Quality Assured or Registered only after obtaining an Aspire Event ID.
- Educate myself to the best of my ability about the Aspire Registry and New York Works for Children to accurately and effectively present information to participants.
- Present information related to early childhood and out-of-school time education, that reflects New York’s Core Body of Knowledge, Early Learning Guidelines, Early Learning Standards for Pre-K through Second Grade, New York State School Age Care Credential Standards and OCFS training topics.
- Cover the content registered and not use training time to conduct business (i.e., staff meetings, scheduling, personnel issues, etc.).
- Ensure that the length of my training is consistent with the number of hours reviewed.
- Update my attendance roster online and upload training attendance records within seven days of event completion.
Please note that failure to adhere to the above may result in the revocation of trainer registration, and all partner agencies will be notified accordingly.
